The Children's Book Council of Australia - Tasmanian Branch

Book Week 2010

Every year millions of kids in Australia hang out for the CBCA Book Awards. So do their parents, teachers and librarians - not to mention authors, illustrators and publishers!

There are categories for every type of reader and for every age group. The judges take enormous care to select works that are relevant, well written, engaging, and often challenging.

For a complete list of this year's short list - and for information about past prize winners - go to the national website of the Children's Book Council.

These awards are funded by generous donations to the CBCA Awards Foundation.

Here comes the judge!

Launceston’s Carol Fuller has been the Tasmanian representative on the national CBCA Awards Judging Panel since May 2008, when her reading of books nominated for the 2009 Awards began, to August 2010, when the 2010 Awards are announced. We have really enjoyed her talks given round the state, each year of her term, on the shortlisted books.

Our new judge for the 2011 and 2012 Awards is Jenni Connor. She has had a long association with literature for children and young people and has been State and National president for CBCA. This is Jenni’s second term as Judge for the CBC Book Awards, so she has some idea of what to expect!

Jenni says, “It is a privilege to be invited once again to serve CBCA as one of the judges for these important awards which promote literature for children and young people to the wider Australian public.”
